Does Every Complex Number Have a Square Root?

Description

In this lesson, we return to the rectangular form of a complex number to show algebraically that we can find the square roots of any complex number without having to express it first in polar form. Students use the properties of complex numbers and the fundamental theorem of algebra to find the square roots of any complex number by creating and solving polynomial equations (N-NC.C.8 and N-NC.C.9).
