Ferris Wheels-Tracking the Height of a Passenger Car

Math Grade 11 Curriculum Map

Description

This lesson sets the stage for the study of the sine function by asking students to explore the height of a passenger car on a Ferris wheel at various points on its circular path. The main goal of this first lesson is for students to discover that the relationship between the height and the number of degrees through which the car has rotated from an initial reference position is not linear.
