This is the first of two lessons in which students will build background knowledge about the Pacific Theater in World War II. In this lesson, students will read an excerpt from the article “War in the Pacific.” Then, they will work with a partner to determine the gist of the text, as well as identify new vocabulary using context clues and dictionaries. In the next lesson, students will read the text more deeply.
