Description
In this lesson, students read part 2, paragraphs 1–9 of “Civil Disobedience,” in which Thoreau explains how “[a]ction from principle” will bring about a peaceful revolution. Students analyze how Thoreau develops a central idea over the course of this passage, and then specifically consider the development of this idea in paragraphs 2 and 9.
