Description
In this lesson, students continue to read and analyze “Hope, Despair and Memory,” focusing on Wiesel’s particularly effective use of rhetoric and how this rhetoric contributes to the power of the text. Using the Rhetorical Impact Tracking Tool, students record their insights about how Wiesel uses specific language, imagery, paradox, and varied syntax to advance a purpose. Additionally, students begin the research process using the Surfacing Issues Tool to identify potential areas of investigation in the text.
