Description
In this first lesson of the unit and module, students are introduced to the module’s focus: building evidence-based arguments through inquiry-based research. Students begin reading and analyzing the introduction to Elie Wiesel’s Nobel Peace Prize lecture, “Hope, Despair and Memory.” In this portion of text, Wiesel introduces a Hasidic legend that introduces the central ideas of memory, hope, and suffering. Students begin to track these central ideas as they emerge and build upon one another.
