In this lesson, students read and analyze pages 171–175 of “The Palace Thief.” In this passage, Hundert confronts Sedgewick Bell about cheating in the “Mr. Julius Caesar” competition and describes the time leading up to Sedgewick’s graduation. Students analyze how the characters of Sedgewick and Hundert develop, and consider the impact of figurative language and word choice on the meaning and tone of the text.
